Memorandum, Foemander, 6/1/16: Australia-born. 36. Married German. Police reported that husband a ‘woolbuyer, of Cologne [described in Police Report, p.4, 28 Dec 1915, as ‘respectable and in affluent circumstances’, and that he and she bear a reputation of being opponents of the Allies… before the outbreak of war, the ladies residing in the vicinity were on visiting terms with the applicant, but owing to her pro-German sympathies, they declined to continue their association with her’ so not recommended (AH agreed below, 7/1/16). app not proceeded w, 10/1/16
She wrote directly to W M Hughes, 13 Nov 1915, ‘on the advice of Mr Gabriel of the Department of External Affairs’ to appeal her case. Sent on the DEA.
